Vitamix S50 Blender Review – Is It Really Worth The Money?

compact professional grade vitamix blender preset controls

Welcome to this review of the Vitamix S50 blender and whether it’s worth the money or not. If you know the history of Vitamix then you’ll know that they focus a lot on creating really big blenders that are really powerful.

Now Vitamix has come up with the S-series (Space Saving Blenders), the Vitamix S50 being one them, and they are smaller blenders but using the same technology to create that power with their bigger blenders. The smaller blenders won’t be AS powerful, but they’re still pretty darn solid.

With these blenders you can not only make smoothies but also use it to perform jobs that only a powerful blender can do such as making nut butters, crushing ice, making frozen fruit  ice cream, and much more.

Interface / Dial Knob

The Vitamix S50 has a very simple interface, there’s just a dial knob that you use to control the speed settings, the pulse function, and the pre-programmed settings by turning either to the right or left.

To turn on the blender you just have to choose what setting you want and then push it.

The pre-programmed settings are basically timers so you can just set it and forget it. But I’m not really a fan of using presets because they don’t blend to the consistency of my liking most of the time, it either needs more blending or could have gotten less.

2 Pre-programmed Settings

There are 2 presets – Smoothie and Power Blend. With the smoothie obviously it’s for making smoothies and maybe other things like protein shakes as well.

But the Power Blend cranks up the blender to the highest speed setting, this would be very useful for blending stubborn ingredients like leafy greens, pineapple rinds, nuts, and seeds. With the Power Blend setting you will get lump free silky smooth drinks.

The pulse function is basically where you don’t have continuous blending, but you “pulse” it for 1-2 seconds at a time which allows for more control. This is a great technique for reducing oxidation in your smoothies. You know how bananas turn brown really quick? Try pulsing your banana smoothies next time to see how it stays white longer.

2 Different Sized Blending Containers

The Vitamix S50 comes with a big 40z pitcher and a smaller 20oz personal sized cup.

The big pitcher can obviously be used to blend up drinks for 2-3 people at a time, it could also be used for bigger tasks like making frozen fruit ice cream, sorbets, soups, and other recipes.

The smaller 20oz cup serves as both the blending container and it is also the drinking cup, it comes with a lid with Sip & Seal lids so you can take it with you on the go.

I really like blenders that offer a to-go cup not only because it’s convenient, but also because it saves you the clean up because you don’t have to find another cup to pour in the smoothie or whatever, you can just drink it right out of the cup you blended it in.

The Vitamix S50 comes with a 4-prong stainless steel blade which works for both containers.

Cleaning Up Is Easy

Both containers are free of BPA and they’re dishwasher safe. It’s probably a good idea to use it on the top rack since the bottom may be too hot for the plastic.

Is The Vitamix S50 Worth Buying?

Vitamix is like the cadillac in the world of blenders, it’s a brand that is known for creating blenders that deliver on quality and power. Even though the Vitamix S50 may not carry the power of a full-sized Vitamix blender, it still carries enough power to deliver high grade results.

It doesn’t take up that much space so you can easily leave it on the countertop without it getting in your way. The 2 different sized containers offers a lot for versatility, you got the big one for the big jobs and the small one for the single serve jobs.

It’s not the cheapest blender, but it’s made from good quality materials and most people seem happy with this blender and there don’t seem to be many complaints.

I’m a big fan of the vitamix series, they are such good blenders with a variety of uses. I enjoyed making soup with mine and the blades actually heated the liquid in the jug!

Fair enough, this may not be the most powerful vitamix on the market but for home use I think this is perfect. Many cafes and coffee shops use the more powerful ones but is that actually required for home use?

I don’t know what kind of blenders cafes and coffee shops use, but what are they blending that needs more powerful ones anyway? I think for home use it’s actually better to have a powerful blender because people can make all sorts of recipes like making nut butters, baby food, frozen treats, hot soups, and anything they can think of.

Wow that is an awesome blender with the two different sized container that you can easily mix with.  The smoothie container is just perfect for everyone who wants to quickly blend up the perfect smoothie for one and just put on the lid and it is ready to go.  I have a blender but it is not the best, I did get it on sale so that saved me some money but it has the blades attached and they cannot even be removed so that is the best for trying to get the most out of what you blend and for cleaning.

When it comes to making healthy stuff, I start to melt down. Can’t resist the look of this machine and certainly not forgiving you for introducing such a yummy review about it 🙂

Very elegant style with practical 2 size containers, it looks just right for my needs. The price is very high though 🙁
