The Dessert Bullet Review (Turns Bananas Into Ice Cream!)

What is The Dessert Bullet?

It is a machine that turns frozen fruit into a creamy dessert treat that resembles sorbet or soft serve ice cream. The Dessert Bullet is part of the Magic Bullet company, you may have seen their infomercials of various personal-sized blenders such as the original Magic Bullet and NutriBullet series. The Dessert Bullet was released in late 2013, almost 10 years after the original Magic Bullet.

This Dessert Bullet review will go over all it’s unique features and performance capabilities, in my opinion it is yet another success in the Bullet line of products. Users really enjoy the fact that it can turn something healthy (fruits) into creamy and decadent desserts that are natural and unprocessed, and full of vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidants.

The Importance of Healthy Eating

Turning frozen fruit is a fun way to encourage yourself or your kids to eat more fruits. With the increasing rates of obesity in both adults and children, eating healthy is more important than ever. But often times eating healthy is difficult because we’re so addicted to the junk food with the processed sugars and fats that comes along with it. The Dessert Bullet helps you eat healthier but without sacrificing your sweet tooth.

Guilt-Free Desserts

Since the main ingredient in these “ice cream” desserts is just fruit, you can eat it every single day if you wanted to, guilt free! Personally I think it’s even fine to eat as much of it as you like, since I don’t believe fruit sugar makes you fat, I mean have you ever heard of anyone getting fat from eating too many strawberries and bananas?  The desserts that you can make with this machine tastes just like soft serve ice cream or sorbet, but just without any of the added fats, sugar, and the empty calories.

Vegan, Natural, Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free

As a vegan, I also do not believe that adult humans are meant to consume dairy, especially from another species. About 65% of all humans in the world are lactose intolerant to some degree, this means eating anything with dairy can cause an upset stomach, I believe this is proof that dairy is not compatible with the human body and we aren’t supposed to be eating it. But the good news is that the creaminess in desserts aren’t an exclusive trait of dairy products.

With the Dessert Bullet, it churns frozen fruit into rich, thick, and creamy desserts. Fruit is naturally unprocessed, gluten-free, dairy-free, high in fiber, and has no unhealthy additives and sweeteners like high fructose corn syrup

Quick, Easy, and Fun

This is something the whole family can enjoy eating and making together, many nutritious dessert can be made in 10 secs or less. Whether you’re lactose intolerant, gluten-free, watching blood sugar, watching your weight, or maybe you’re vegan like myself, this machine can benefit anyone from all walks of life. For those who are counting calories, it also comes with a recipe book with recipes that are all under 200 calories.

Let’s take a look at some of the technical features of the Dessert Bullet.

Power and Performance

It has a 350 watt motor base, it’s powerful enough to produce results in 10 seconds or less. It works best with ripe and frozen fruit that’s slightly thawed first. It won’t work as well with solid frozen chunks of icy fruit.

How Loud Is It?

Some users have complained that it is a little bit on the noisy side, but overall it’s not as loud compared to a blender. Noise also won’t be much of an issue because it only takes 10 seconds or less to make your dessert, so any noise that it makes will be over before you know it.

Using The Machine

How to Use - Step by Step Guide
1. Find some ripe fruit (whatever you like) and cut them into chunks. A lot of people like bananas because they tend to thicken the dessert and give it that creamy texture. Make sure the chunks are small enough to fit through the feeding tube of the Dessert Bullet.

Note: Thaw the frozen fruit for about 15 minutes at room temperature before using it with the machine.

2. Turn on the Dessert Bullet and start inserting your fruit into the feeding tube. At this time you can also add in any ingredients you like. Suggestion: Try adding in nuts, vegan chocolate and marshmallows with a base of bananas to create your own home-made rocky road ice cream!

3. Use the plunger and press on the ingredients to move them down the feeding tube. The results should start appearing within seconds.

Note: The machine won’t mix the ingredients for you. So if you inserted a bunch of walnuts and chocolate chips at the beginning, then that’s gonna come out first. Just stir it up with a spoon to make sure the ingredients are evenly mixed together.

What Fruits Can Be Used?

You can use any kind of fruit you like! You don’t have to use bananas in every recipe, but it will definitely make it more smooth and creamy. Other kinds of fruits such as frozen watermelon, raspberries and strawberries can make a tasty sorbet.

Quick Tip: Try adding cubes of frozen dairy-free yogurt or cashews for an extra layer of creaminess.

While fruit is the main ingredient, you can also spice it up with other additions such as crushed nuts, sprinkles, chocolate chips..etc which can be added into the feeding tube with the fruit, or added on top of them.

Easy to Clean

Just separate all the removable parts and give it a quick rinse under warm tap water. You can also put the parts on the top rack of the dishwasher.

The Dessert Bullet Blender

It comes with a 1-year warranty. If you are buying it off Amazon, you’ll have the option to extend your coverage by an additional 4 years by paying just a little bit extra.

Is It Worth The Money?

If you’re big on sugary desserts but don’t like the fat and empty calories that usually come with it, this little machine is going to be a game changer for your health. As the saying goes “Your health is your biggest wealth.” Not only are you leaving out the unhealthy stuff, you’re also including the vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidants in fruit, killing two birds with one stone.

The warranty is only 1 year which is short. But if you’re buying it on Amazon, they do give you an option to extend coverage for 3 or 4 years with a small additional cost, this additional cost is nominal, making this option a very big plus in my opinion.

My Final Thoughts

You will love this machine if you’re one of the millions of people who love sweets but feel guilty about eating them because of the processed sugars and calories.

The next time the kids ask for ice cream, just whip out the Dessert Bullet and in 10 seconds or less you’ll have made a healthy version of rocky road, a chocolate nut sundae, cookies and cream, it’s your choice on how creative you wanna get. It is a lot of fun to create, the kids can help make it too with your supervision.  It is loaded with ingredients that are nutritious and good for them, they won’t taste the difference between the healthy stuff and the unhealthy stuff, but you as a parent would know that there is a difference between this and the ice cream that comes from an ice cream truck.

What’s your favorite ice cream? I love bananas and vanilla with almond milk. Share yours down below in the comments. If you enjoyed reading this review post, please share it with your friends on social media and give it a thumbs up! Thanks for reading.

This looks like a really cool product, is it made by David Wolfe, the same guy who created the nutribullet? I can’t honestly think of a better way of making fruit enjoyable for kids than truning them into a frozen yogert or icecream sorbet. I enjoy bananas and berry sorbet personally, Would you say it is worth the money?

    • Kent says:

Lol no it wasn’t created by David Wolfe, but he was the guy who promoted a lot of the NutriBullet brand name products through TV infomercials and stuff, so I can understand why people would associate this product with his name. Whether it’s worth buying or not I’d ask how often you think you would make these frozen ice cream desserts? It can certainly be worthwhile if you use it often, like a couple times a week. It’s not an expensive machine, and it can be very useful.

I’m excited to learn about this machine.
I’m addicted to frozen yogurt and try to limit my consumption, but this machine may be my savior.
I am definitely going to get one. It’s such a good idea. Frozen desserts that are totally healthy and delicious. How can you go wrong?
The complaint about it being noise must be a picky sensitive person. Really?! noisy for 10 seconds.
Thanks so much for the review. It’s one of those things I didn’t know existed that I have been looking for.

    • Kent says:

yeah noise for just 10 seconds I think most people should be able to handle that, even if they were sleeping, just pretend ur dreaming about a truck passing by or something lol

  3. Marcus says:

    Hi Kent

Never saw this product before until I came across your website. This blender almost sounds too good to be true haha.

I love eating ice cream (who doesn’t lol), but I also love to eat healthy.

I have had some success before with making ice cream from a frozen bananas. Basically, you just blend the frozen banana until they are completely creamy. However, it was very troublesome and took a long time, which can’t be said about the dessert bullet.

My favorite recipe was bananas and cashew butter. Tastes amazing.

    • Kent says:

      Hey Marcus,

your method of using the blender totally works as well, I have done this myself plenty of times. With a blender, you may have to stir it around often with a spoon in between pulsing, and constantly monitor the progress. I think it’s best to use fruit that is not completely frozen, but slightly thawed, this will make blending it easier. Even when using the Dessert Bullet, it’s still better to use slightly thawed frozen fruit to ensure the machine works the most efficiently.

I haven’t tried bananas and cashew butter together, but it sounds really good. I heard that cashews really add another layer of creaminess to the ice cream, sounds like something I’d try! Thanks for the comment
