The Omega J8006 Juicer has gained a good reputation for being a dependable top performing juice extractor. The user reviews are excellent and this machine has been a top seller in the masticating juicer market for a while now.

What Is Masticating  Juicer?

Unlike a centrifugal juicer which extracts juice via fast-spinning blade grinder, a masticating juicer extracts juice from fruits and vegetables by slowly crushing and squeezing it.

This Omega J8006 juicer processes at a rate of about 80 RPM, this slower speed will produce drier pulp and about 30% more juice yields than a centrifugal juicer. The low RPM prevents oxidation and so less air means the juice will be less foamy.

With oxidation at a halt, you can store your juice in the fridge in an air-tight mason jar for up to 3 days without it degrading or the juice separating like other juicers. But of course the sooner you drink it the more nutrient dense it will be, drinking it right away will always give the best results.

Key Features

Easy To Use

It takes less than a minute to put all the parts together. Because the feeding chute is only 1.5 inches wide, you will have to cut up your produce into small chunks before putting it in. Use the plunger to gently press down on the fruits and vegetables.

If you experience any clogging or problems, just press the reverse button a few times which will unclog it. If that doesn’t work, you can always pull it apart to rinse it out and put it back together.

Take a look at this video for a complete setup guide:

Strong Auger

The auger is the part of the machine that does the work of juicing, grinding the fruits and vegetables many times extracting the most juice. It is made from a material called “Ultem” which is 8x stronger than other plastics, this strength is what ensure years of efficiency and durability.

Rotates At Just 80RPM

Juicing at a slower speed will prevent oxidization of the juice, which will protect the nutrients from being lost. You can store it in the fridge for up to 3 days. This method of juicing crushes all varieties of hard and soft produce to yield higher amounts of juice. This is perfect for people looking to juice a lot of leafy greens like kale, spinach, and wheat grass.

The slower speed of the motor also means it will not make a lot of noise while juicing, so you can juice at any time day or night without worries of the noise bothering anyone.

Two Stages Of Juicing

When the produce first goes down the feeding chute, it gets crush for the first time through a mesh screen. Then the pulp gets moved along as the auger powerfully extracts the rest of the juice, squeezing it with immense pressure.

Multi functioning – Not Just Juice

You can also use this machine as a food processor to chop and mince your fruits and vegetables into fine pieces, make nut butters, sorbets, baby foods, grind coffee and even make pastas with the 5 pasta nozzles that comes with the juicer. You can make round or flat noodles with the nozzles, and also make bread sticks with the larger nozzles.

15 Year Warranty

Omega is one of the top brands and their juicers are known for being top quality and high performing, and they’re willing to back it up with strong warranties. With a 15 year warranty you can juice for a decade and a half worry-free knowing that you’d be covered if any part of the machine ever breaks.

  • High juice yields and less oxidization resulting from a slow motor speed at 80 RPM.
  • Very little noise, operation is super quiet.
  • A strong auger made with ultem, a strong material that ensures the durability while juicing hard vegetables like carrots and daikon.
  • Powerful and rarely clogs, there’s a reverse button for the odd times that it does.
  • Two-stage juicing means drier pulp and less waste.
  • Plenty of non-juicing functionalities. The name “Nutrition Center” was given because you can make all kinds of healthy meals and snacks.
  • Cleaning up is pretty easy, all the parts come off without difficulty and are dishwasher safe. Also comes with a brush that you can use to reach tight spots.

  • Takes longer to juice due to slower motor speed, although it makes up by yielding higher quality juice
  • Not cheap for someone on a budget. It is considered a mid-priced juicer, it’s best for someone serious and ready to commit to the juicing lifestyle.
  • The feed chute is kind of small at 1.5 inches. This means more prep time cutting up the produce.
  • This machine isn’t small and does take up some space, but it looks good so you can leave it on the kitchen counter.
  • The plastics of the juicer are not BPA free. Some people may find this a deal-breaker.

What Can Be Juiced?

This juicer is best used for leafy greens such as kale and wheat grass, but all kinds of hard and soft produce can be juiced. Here are some examples:

Hard Produce Include Things Like…

Apples, pears, citrus fruits (oranges, lemons and grapefruit,) coconuts, potatoes, yams, beets, carrots, ginger, garlic, fennel, taro root, bell peppers, cucumbers, squash, pumpkin, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, daikon, radish, cabbage and brussels sprout.

Leafy Greens Include Things Like…

Kale, wheat grass, collard greens, spinach, turnip greens, swiss chard, mustard greens, broccoli, rapini, romaine lettuce, red and green leaf lettuce, bok-choy, watercress, ice berg lettuce and cilantro

What Can’t Be Juiced?

Don’t try to juice sugar cane with this because the auger, although strong, isn’t designed to be strong enough for crushing sugar cane. Also some fruits are just not meant for juicing, like bananas for example. Other soft fruits are also not ideal for juicing, they are better off used in the blender to make smoothies. But you can use the juicer to turn it into a puree if you want.

Generally speaking, a masticating juicer is best used for hard fruits and leafy greens, while a centrifugal juicer is optimal for soft juicy fruits. But if you’re looking to juice soft fruits on a masticating juicer, the best way is to do one piece of soft fruit followed by something really hard and fibrous, like a carrot.

Soft Fruits Include…

Mangoes, peach, nectarines, kiwifruit, papayas, avocados, grapes, berries, strawberries, tomatoes and cranberries.

Some of these fruits like strawberries for example, can technically be juiced, but it will be thicker and so you should dilute it with other juices.

You can also make healthy desserts like fruit sorbet by using frozen berries as seen in this video:

Final Verdict

The Omega J8006 has been strongly among the top masticating juicers for years and it continues to hold up to it’s reputation. It’s motor is powerful and yields impressive juice quantity, it does the job with it’s 2-stage juicing process which leaves you with less waste and more juice.

It can juice leafy greens, all kinds of hard and soft produce, and has a wide array of different functions not related to juicing, which adds more value to the machine. Compared to a centrifugal juicer, noise levels are relatively quiet while it’s juicing. It is a powerful, durable, and versatile juice extractor.

Despite a few minor cons, this is a worthy investment for anyone serious about starting a lifestyle of juicing, whether you’re just a curious beginner or a Long-Time Raw Vegan whose been juicing for years.

Users of this juicer are giving it lots of excellent ratings. After many years this is still one of the top recommended Omega masticating juicers, and will probably remain so for years ahead.

I hope you have found this review to be of some help to you, and post below for any thoughts, comments and feedback on this Omega juicer.

We use ours almost every day for the last 3 years or so. Mostly for green juices, but I made almond, peanut, and cashew butters too. Its a Good investment. I’d replace it with the same thing if I have to.

  2. Laurieann says:

I love this Omega J8006 machine. The fact it retains most of the nutrients makes it a great investment on the health of my whole family, it’s easy to use and barely makes any noise. A good idea is to keep it on the counter and this encourages everyone to use it. I can tell this is certainly one of the top juicers on the market and I have no doubt it will last a long long time. Great review!

    • Kent says:

Hey Laurieann, thanks for the comment, this is indeed probably the top 3 masticating juicers out there. I agree with leaving it on the counter, people are more likely to use something if it’s out in the open and convenient. That’s why I tend to put healthy foods where I can see them, it’s the first thing I’d go for.
