My Review of Vitamix Ascent A3500 Blender – Too Expensive?

high end vitamix brushed stainless steel blender

Vitamix has come out with the all-new line of blenders called the Ascent Series, and the Ascent A3500 is the top of the line and latest model. In this review I’ll be going over all it’s features and whether it’s worth the heavy price tag.

With the Ascent A3500 you get everything the previous models (A2300, A2500, A3300) has to offer including the same 2.2 Horse Power motor, built-in digital timer, 10 different speed settings, and it can make all the same recipes.

The main difference is that the Ascent A3500 comes with more controls and presets, plus it comes with a touchscreen interface. All the previous models are all good blenders and there’s no wrong choice, it just depends on your cooking style and how many extra controls you need.

Because the Ascent A3500 is the top of the line in the Ascent Series, it is the most expensive one as well. But if you don’t mind paying a bit more and you’re looking for something with all the bells and whistles, it is definitely worth a look.

Interface / Knob / Controls

The A3500 has a really sophisticated and modern look to it. The interface is simple and easy to use, there is a rotary dial in the middle and everything else is controlled by the touchscreen settings.

The rotary dial controls the 10 different speed settings. Unlike previous models where the dial goes from 1-10, with the A3500 there are no numbers on it because it automatically resets itself back to 1 after you stop blending.

Above the dial you’ll see the 5 different presets on the digital interface which also shows the time and speed. On the left of the dial you’ll find the pulse function, and on the right of the dial you’ll find the start/stop button.

64oz Blending Pitcher

The Ascent A3500 comes with a 64oz blending pitcher, but you can buy other container sizes on places like Amazon as well. This pitcher is full sized and can serve 4 or more people, but you can also make smaller servings on it as well.

The plastic used to create the pitcher is BPA-free so you don’t have to worry about any nasty chemicals leaking into your food and beverages.

See-Through Transparent Lid

One thing I find really cool is that it has a transparent lid that’s see-through.

Normally with other blenders you get a black rubber top lid, but a see-through lid means you get much better visibility and can observe the blending from the top.

10 Different Speed Settings

The A3500 has 10 variable speed settings controlled by the rotary dial in the center of the interface.

The speed settings are useful because it allows you to control how fast or slow the blades spin, so if you want chunkier recipes then go for the low settings, but if you want fine and silky smooth recipes then the high speed settings can be used.

5 Different Presets

What makes the A3500 different from the 3 previous Ascent models is that it’s got the most presets. There’s 5 presets in total and they include:

  • Smoothies
  • Hot Soups
  • Frozen Dessert
  • Dips and Spreads
  • Self Cleaning

You don’t actually NEED presets to do all those things. I mean, with other Vitamix blenders that don’t have presets you can still make smoothies, hot soups, and all that. But presets are a convenient feature that allows you to automate the blending with a press of a button, just set it and forget it.

Compatible With “Self Detect” Containers

The motor base has a “Self Detect” feature where it knows what blending container size you put on it, and will adjust the blending times accordingly. So for example if you use a small smoothie cup it’ll shorten the blending times, and vice versa if you use the large 64oz pitcher.

The A3500 comes with only the 64oz blending pitcher, but if you go to places like Amazon you can purchase different sized containers separately.

What Recipes Can You Make?

High performance blenders like the A3500 are really versatile machines, aside from smoothies and shakes it can whip up 1000s of different recipes. Some examples include making frozen fruit sorbet or ice cream, dips and spreads, baby food, nut butters, grinding coffee beans, chopping and dicing veggies, crushing ice, mixing batter, and much more.

It can even make hot soup right in the blender itself, no need to even turn on the stove. Heat is generated from the friction created by the fast-moving blades. Within 10 minutes you’ll have hot steamy soup ready to serve!

How To Clean The Blender

One of the 5 presets is the Self-Cleaning function which is very convenient. All you do is fill the blending container halfway up with water, squeeze in a few drops of soapy liquid, put on the lid and press the Self-Cleaning preset button.

The blender will clean itself and this will take about 30 seconds. Afterwards just pour out the soapy water and give it a quick rinse under tap water to remove all the remaining residue.

It’s also dishwasher safe if you want to go that route, but honestly there’s no need to use it unless you left the container out overnight and the residue is all dried up.

How Much Does It Cost?

The A3500 is the latest model in the Ascent Series and also the most pricey one as well, but you can get a pretty good deal if you purchase it on Amazon. It comes with a full 10 year warranty, and you can also get extended warranty as well for extra peace of mind. You can click to Check Current Price on Amazon.

The Positives

  • Stunning modern design that’ll compliment any kitchen
  • Powerful 1500 watt 2.2 HP motor can make anything from fruit smoothies to nut butters
  • 5 different presets offering maximum convenience, just press button and walk away
  • Digital touchscreen interface making it easy to use and clean
  • Cool transparent see-through lid that gives you a bird’s eye view of the ingredients blending
  • Comes with tamper/plunger so you can push ingredients to blade level to yield more consistent results
  • Comes with a 10 year warranty

The Negatives

  • Very expensive
  • Only comes with the 64oz container, if you want other sizes you’ll have to buy them separately
  • It makes a lot of noise and might annoy people

Is This High-End Blender Worth Buying?

The Ascent A3500 comes with a lot of bells and whistles and it is a modern high performance blender with a lot of sophistication. It is the latest model in the Ascent Series and comes with the most features.

You get 5 presets for smoothies, frozen dessert, hot soup, dips, and cleaning. 10 speed settings, pulse, powerful motor and blades, an easy-to-use digital touchscreen interface, what more can you ask for?

If you’re not on a tight budget and you’re looking for a blender that has all the features then the Vitamix Ascent A3500 is definitely worth a look.

If you’re looking for something simpler and more affordable then consider checking out the previous models in the Ascent Series instead – A2300, A2500, and A3300.

If the full sized 64oz pitcher is too large for you then see the Vitamix E310 Explorian instead where it comes with a smaller 48oz pitcher, or the Vitamix S50 which comes with a 40oz pitcher plus a single-serve smoothie cup with to-go lids which gives you the option to eat clean on the go.

That’s a very thorough review. But am I the only one that fears grinding coffee beans on that glass-like see through container?

I’m currently using a Ninja blender and lets just say the noise is on another level!

Please, someone quell my fear of coffee beans braking the blender. I am always playing it safe with fruit juices.

Left a comment on your site!  Very thorough workhorse is the Vitamix brand of blenders.

I own one and am proud to say that I have only sent it in for repairs once in 10 years!  Well worth the price.  I use mine for everything from smoothies, juices to nut butters. I juice anything from 2-4 litres of smoothie daily to keep eczema at bay.

My nails are gleaming and so is my hair really thick even though I am in my mid-fifties.

Loved your review…Keep up the good work!

    • Kent says:

Hey Stella, thanks for sharing your experience with Vitamix. They are definitely the Cadillac of blenders, a little pricey but think of it as a good long term investment. Smoothies are definitely a great way to keep your body in good health, it’s my preferred way of getting in my 6 daily servings of fruit and leafy greens.

Blender is important machine for our life now. We are using it for various purposes. A power blender like Vitamix Ascent A3500 will not be cheap because of it’s multiple functionality.

The Ascent A3500 comes with loads of bells and whistles and it’s a contemporary superior liquidizer with loads of sophistication. it’s the newest model within the Ascent Series and comes with the foremost options.

We also get five presets for smoothies, dessert, hot soup, dips, and cleanup. 10-speed settings, pulse, powerful motor and blades, associate degree easy-to-use digital touchscreen interface.

So considering above option, I have same opinion that this is one of the best blender in the world though it is costly.

  4. James Underwood says:

On the market to replace my trusty 6 year old Oster blender, after daily use for my morning smoothie.  I know most people probably just use their blenders once a week or so, but I use mine every single day, so I need one that is going to last.

I like that it is 64 ounces, that is about as small as I could go. I make a vegan mac and cheese that takes some time to make, so I like to triple the vegan cheese recipe.  I never really thought about it, but I like the sound of a see through lid!

The fact that it is plastic is kind of a bummer but at least it is BPA free. I prefer glass, even though I have shattered my share of those heavy things.  BPA is good enough though.

Thanks for your review! I will order one on AMAZON today.

    • Kent says:

Hey James, some people complain that plastic causes the pitcher to leak but I’ve never had that issue. Just make sure to twist on everything securely and there shouldn’t be much of a problem. Hope it helps

  5. Barry says:

Hi Kent. Thanks alot for sharing your review of Vitamix Ascent A3500 Blender. The Ascent Series are all powerful but I’m amazed by the upgrades!

I think it is worth the heavy price considering the added controls and presets, and the touchscreen interface. This will add more style to my operations and make it more easier use too.

    • Kent says:

Hey Barry, yeah it’s right for a specific set of people who are looking for the best that money can buy. It rich with a lot of features and presets, and that’s what really jacks up the price. But it’s worth it if you want a luxurious and modern blender that is also high performing.

  6. Dale says:

In our house its all about the smoothies.  Several smoothies a day are pumped out of our blender.  The one thing that is a pain is that my wife makes me always put it under the counter because its not that appealing.

So just maybe if I buy a cool looking blender like this one I will be allowed to keep it on the counter.

I guess Im going to have to see if my wife is up for a compromise because I know I want this blender.  Unfortunately I dont always get what I want.

    Another great review.

  7. Chris says:

I agree with you that the Vitamix Ascent A3500 Blender is a bit on the pricey side, but when you consider the fact that it has a 10 year warranty in place – it’s really not that bad!

Consider that the family will be using this machine at the very least once a day, there are definitely going to be some problems in a decade period. How much would a repair cost without warranty? Probably a lot!

You mention that it is good for nut butters – I’m wondering if you have any recipes for blender nut butters?

    • Kent says:

I’ve made nut butters a couple of times, here’s what I would do for peanut butter:

      1. 2-4 cups of roasted peanuts
      2. 1-3 tablespoons of coconut oil
      3. 1-4 tablespoons of some kind of sweetener, like honey, maple syrup, agave, etc.

Blend the mixture until silky smooth. Spread it over freshly toasted whole grain bread and you have a really, really, nice and healthy meal.

  8. Sujandar Mahesan says:

Vitamix Ascent A3500 Blender looks like a really nice one to buy for. I was actually looking for one of these this Christmas so I can gift it to me uncle because they once mentioned that they needed one. Thank you writing this article and sharing it with us. Now I have one less thing to worry about this Christmas.
