My Review of Vitamix Ascent A2300 Blender – Worth The Money?

entry level vitamix blender professional grade

Vitamix has a new line of blenders called the Ascent Series that include a few new features like having a digital built-in timer and “self detect” containers. Today I’ll be looking at the first blender to come out in this series, the Vitamix Ascent A2300 blender, and whether they’re worth the money or not.

When you first look at this blender you’ll see a very modern minimalist design with it’s digital timer and simple interface. It comes with the traditional 64oz blending pitcher, variable speed settings, and a pulse function.

The motor base comes with 1500 watts and 2.2 peak Horse Power which is powerful enough to blend anything from the softest to toughest of ingredients like fruit, ice, nuts, seeds, stems, beans, rice, and more.

Since Vitamix is an industry leader brand their blenders don’t come cheap, but that high price tag also comes with high quality as well. If you’re looking for the best that money can buy, the Vitamix Ascent A2300 is worth checking out.

Interface / Buttons / Knob

It has a simple interface that is easy to use and understand. In the center you have the knob/dial which is used to control the speed settings. On the left of the knob is the pulse button, on the right is the start/stop button.

One cool thing is the built-in digital timer located above the knob. It’s like a stop watch where it lets you know exactly how much time has elapsed since you started blending.

64oz Blending Pitcher With Transparent Lid

You get a large 64oz blending pitcher which is large enough to feed 3-4 people at once.

One thing I find pretty cool is the see-through transparent lid. This means you can look down from the top while the ingredients are blending for a bird’s eye view which you can’t do with traditional blenders that come with a black rubber top.

Powerful Motor & Sharp Blades

The Ascent A2300 comes with a powerful 1500 watt and 2.2 Horse Power motor.

This blender is pretty much just as powerful as many of the higher-priced Vitamix blenders, but it’s the most basic one that’s the most affordable!

It comes with 4-prong hardened stainless steel blades that are built to last and will not corrode. It can handle the toughest of ingredients and can pulverize pretty much anything.

10 Different Speeds

There are different speed levels on this blender from 1-10. You control how slow or fast the blades spin by twisting the knob/dial in the middle of the motor base.

This is very useful because you get to control how fine or chunky you want to blend your food. For example if you’re making things like salsa and chopping vegetables you obviously don’t want to liquefy it so you’d blend it at a lower speed setting.

For other things like smoothies and shakes where you DO want to liquefy ingredients into a silky smooth texture, this is where you’d use the higher speed settings.

Compatible With “Self Detect” Containers

The Ascent A2300 only comes with the 64oz blending pitcher, but you can buy other sized containers separately.

Vitamix has a line containers that are “Self Detect” meaning that when you put the container on the motor base it will automatically detect what sized container you put on and adjusts the blending times accordingly.

For example if you put the small smoothie cup on the base it will know to shorten the blending time, and vice versa if you put on the 64oz family sized pitcher.

This Blender Can Heat Up Soup!

One of the more interesting features is the blender’s ability to heat up soup, right in the blender itself without ever needing to turn on the stove. The blades move at 37,000rpm causes enough friction with the ingredients to generate the heat necessary to bring the soup up to almost boiling temperature.

There are vents on the lid to release any pressure that builds up from all the heat generated.

What Else Can It Make?

Even though the A2300 doesn’t have any presets, it can still make pretty much anything from smoothies to baby food.

If you’re only using this blender for smoothies then you’re missing out! This blender can also make nut butters, chop vegetables, grate cheese, grind coffee beans, crush ice, make salsa, dips, hot soup, and much more.

How To Clean The Blender

Cleaning this blender is so easy because it has a self-cleaning function. Just fill the blending container halfway up with water and then add in a few drops of dish detergent, then blend it on the highest speed setting for about 30 seconds. Afterwards just pour out the soapy water and rinse out any residue.

You can also clean it in the dishwasher on the top rack, but I don’t think it’s necessary. As long you clean it right away after use and don’t let it dry up, it’s pretty easy to wash either by hand or using the self-cleaning function.

How Much Does It Cost?

The Ascent A2300 is the most basic blender in the Ascent series and it’s relatively affordable. But it’s still kind of expensive for a blender overall. It does comes with 10 year warranty so you can be sure it’s built to last for at least a decade. You can also opt for an additional 3 or 4 year protection plan if you want. The Positives

  • 1500 watt 2.2 HP motor powerful and capable of doing any tough job
  • Beautiful modern design, minimalist interface
  • 10 variable speed settings
  • Pulse function for manual control in food prep
  • Built-in digital timer helps you achieve consistent textures and results
  • Most affordable blender in the Ascent series
  • 10 year warranty

The Negatives

  • Even though it’s the most affordable blender in the Ascent series it’s still pretty expensive for a blender
  • Only comes with the 64oz full sized pitcher, if you want smaller containers you have to buy them separately

Is The Vitamix A2300 Worth Buying?

The A2300 is the most basic blender in the Ascent series and it’s the most affordable one, but it’s still packed with a lot of cool and useful features. It’s also just as powerful as all the other blenders in the series because it’s made with the same motor, blades, containers, and all that.

The only thing that’s missing are the presets for smoothies, soups, and frozen treats which you’ll find with other Ascent blenders like the Ascent A2500. But you can still make all those recipes manually, so for many people that’s not an issue.

If you’re looking to buy a Vitamix Ascent blender that comes with a lot of power and high performance capabilities, the Ascent A2300 is definitely worth exploring. You won’t get any presets on this blender, but since it’s more affordable it’s a good comprise to make.

For some people with smaller families and households the 64oz pitcher may be too big for them. If you want a smaller pitcher consider checking out the Vitamix E310 Explorian instead where you get a 48oz pitcher which can serve about 2 people.

If you’d like to buy a blender set that includes both a large pitcher and single serve to-go smoothie cup then check out the Vitamix S50 which includes a 40oz pitcher and a 20oz personal sized container with to-go lid.

My Final Rating:

  • Features & Performance
  • Overall Design
  • Value For Price
4.2
