How To Make Fruit Into Ice Cream (100% Healthy Frozen Treats)

Ever had some over ripe bananas laying around and don’t know what to do with them? You might feel guilty for wasting food if you just throw them away, or you can give them away to somebody else, a better solution would be to make banana ice cream with them.

You may be surprised at how different a banana can taste when it’s frozen and blended, some may not believe after seeing the final blended product that it is just bananas. So how to make fruit into ice cream? There are several ways to do this.

The blender is probably the easiest way since a lot of people have them in their kitchens already, but there are also machines you can buy such as the Yonanas Elite and the Dessert Bullet, with these machines it’s quite a bit easier than the blenders and the job is done more efficiently.

What Fruits Can Be Turned Into Ice Cream?

You can use pretty much any kind of fruit you want. A lot of people like bananas because they tend to make things very creamy, and it’ll look and taste very much like vanilla soft-serve ice cream. If you’re using more watery things like berries and melons, they’ll resemble sorbet instead and not really ice cream. But the only ingredients you’ll need is 100% frozen fruit, really that’s all you need!

The popular belief goes that the carbs will get stored in the body as fat unless you exercise a lot, but my research have led me to believe that this is all just a myth that got spread around. Benefits of eating fruit “ice cream” over regular ice cream

Unlike regular ice cream, fruit ice cream is low in fat, low in calories, and high in fiber. The sugars are all natural and they come with vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidants that helps the body fight against diseases. If you find it difficult to get your kids to eat more fruit, then why not give it to them in the form of ice cream or sorbet instead? They may not like eating a bowl of regular berries, but I’m willing to bet they’d be more willing to go for a decadent dessert of mixed fruit sorbet.

Great For Weight Loss

I know of many people who have lost weight while still getting to eat things like this. Think about it, weight loss would be so much more enjoyable when you don’t have to feel deprived. While others are staying away from the full fat ice cream, you get to eat ice cream everyday, and without negatively affecting your health!

How To Turn Frozen Fruit Into Ice Cream

1. Using a blender

You can use a blender or even a food processor to make vegan banana ice cream. If using bananas first make sure they are ripe, this will make your ice cream sweeter and tastier. Slice it up real thin and put it in the freeze for a few hours. Slicing it up thinly helps it blend easier.

Put the frozen fruit into the blender with a few drops of water or almond milk and start blending it, it will take about a minute and you will know that it’s ready when it turns into the consistency of soft-serve. If the fruit on top is not settling to the bottom, just stop blending and take a spoon to stir it around, then keep blending.

A small personal blender like the NutriBullet Pro or NutriBullet RX is great, they’re powerful enough to churn your frozen fruit into ice cream, and you can just twist off the lid and eat it right out of the jar. With bigger blenders you’ll need to scoop it out and pour it into a bowl, but with the NutriBullet blenders there would be less to wash.

2. Using a frozen dessert maker

A frozen dessert maker turns any frozen fruit into a decadent dessert, this is the easiest way of turning fruit into ice cream. There are a few popular brands of frozen dessert makers out there, I did a review on the Yonanas Elite Frozen Healthy Dessert Maker and Dessert Bullet which are both great and have very high user reviews and ratings.

Using these machines are very simple, the prep work is the same as using the blenders (ripe fruit, chop it up, freezing it.) Then you just take your frozen fruit and put them down the feeding tube of the machine, you use a plunger to push them down, the results should appear underneath within a few seconds.

You can put in any kind of additional ingredients you like into the feeding tube along with the fruit, some commonly suggested items include toasted nuts, chocolate chips, Oreo cookies, and sprinkles. If you didn’t know, Oreo cookies one of those accidentally vegan foods. Many people would think the creamy center filling for sure has dairy, but no, it Oreos are 100% vegan.

My Final Thoughts

I think it’s really cool how a banana is just a banana, but when you freeze it and blend it, you will get a completely different experience. Not only does it taste good, you’re eating all the good stuff too and you know it. It’s great for getting kids to eat more servings of fruit, it’s great if you’re into weight loss, and it’s great for anyone else because it tastes amazing and there’s no reason to return back to regular desserts with the high amounts of unhealthy fats and empty calories.

    Hello Kent!

    Wow, this idea looks just yummy :). It gives us a healthier version of ice cream, and at the same time fruits get a tasty new chance to make us feel good when they are our food!

    Obviously we don’t put the equal sign between natural sugars in fruits and commercial sugars that we find on store shelves! And then we may think also this way: have we accidentally forgotten some fruits in the refrigerator? Well, it’s not that bad, we don’t actually need to defrost them, let’s make some ice cream! So the accident is turned into a surprise. Of course we would need a blender for that.

      i think only the dense fruits can be turned into ice cream. like bananas, peaches, mangoes, etc. watery ones like pears and apples won’t work

    Wow. You really got me. In our family ice cream is our favorite dessert. We have not tried to make ice cream from banana until now. I think it’s a good idea and I definitely want to try.

      yea definitely try it. I suggest you do an experiment and tell your family beforehand that it’s a regular brand of banana ice cream and see if they figure out it’s 100% bananas.

    I love this – in my house we call it “nice cream”. My favorite is banana and peach or banana and peanut butter. Amazing food that tastes like a naughty treat, but is actually super healthy.

      Hey Andy, I haven’t tried it with peanut butter yet but it’s a great idea, especially if it’s got chunks of peanuts in them. Would also love to try putting some ginger snap cookies with that as well, thanks for the suggestion!
