Excalibur 3926TB Food Dehydrator Review 2021 (Good Buy?)

What is the Excalibur 3926TB?

It has been described by some as the “holy grail of dehydrators,” the Excalibur brand has been in business since the early 1970’s and over the years have build a solid reputation for it’s high quality dehydrators that are manufactured in California USA. The Excalibur 3926TB Food Dehydrator has very positive reviews and ratings from it’s online customers.

Why dehydrate your food?

Dehydrating fruits and vegetables is one of the oldest methods of food preservation, and it’s also a great way to create healthy and tasty snacks. When food is dried, it concentrates and brings out the natural flavors of the foods.

It’s popular among raw vegans who don’t expose their foods above 120 degrees Fahrenheit, raw fruits and vegetables contains living enzymes that helps with digestion and maintaining good health.

Some fairly common vegan snacks that can be made in a dehydrator include apple chips, banana chips, kale chips, trail mixes, sprouted grain bread, and crackers. Things like apple chips and kale chips are absurdly expensive when you buy it in stores, I mean, instead of buying a 2oz bag of kale chips for $5, you can make your own in a dehydrator for 1/10 of the price!

In this Excalibur 3926TB food dehydrator review I’ll be going over it’s special features and functionalities, pros, cons, and everything in between.

Power & Performance

Wattage: 600 watts.

You may see a similar dehydrator on Amazon that has 440 watts, that is the one with 5 trays. The Excalibur 3926TB with 9 trays has 600 watts.

Voltage: 110-120 volts

Noise Levels: There is some whirling noise when the fan of the machine is running, but not to the point where it becomes loud and annoying. It will unlikely to disturb your sleeping if you leave it on through the night. In fact, some people may even find the whirling noise relaxing and soothing to listen to, like a white noise meditation sound sort of thing.

The Excalibur 3926TB Food Dehydrator is made in Sacramento California, USA.

The trays are made with polypropylene #5 which is a very safe type of plastic for food, it is also BPA-free. The manufacturer doesn’t say if the plastic of the outer case is BPA-free or not, but they do say that it is made with FDA approved polycarbonate which is a very safe plastic that doesn’t give off harmful fumes when used under 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

Size & Capacity

The beauty about this machine is that it’s about the size of a big microwave and so it can easily fit on most kitchen counters. Although it is on the bulky side and the thermostat & timer is on the back of the machine, so it’s best to leave it somewhere with a lot of open space as opposed to under a small kitchen cabinet next to a wall.

It’s dimensions are about 19” in length, 17” in height, and 12.5” and width. It comes with 9 square trays and has a 15sqft capacity which is enough space to fit in about 5lbs of sliced potatoes. Nothing more annoying than doing a bunch of prep work to only dehydrate a little at a time.

What Foods Can You Dehydrate?

Anything! Really… you can make just about anything. Fruits, vegetables, meat (I’m vegan, but for all you meat eaters this dehydrator can make jerky) this machine does it all.

You can make your own fruit roll ups, kale chips, apple chips, fat-free potato hash browns, pet treats, trail mix, dried soup powder mixes, dried herbs & spices, crackers, and more.

Other Uses

Drying food isn’t the only use of a dehydrator machine. For example, you can use the dehydrator machine to keep food warm while you do other things, just slide out the trays and put in your casserole pan or whatever, wouldn’t that be nice?

Also use it to make dough rise, use it for drying photos, drying flowers for arts & crafts, some dentists even use the Excalibur dehydrators to dry their plastic molds! As you can see, this machine has so many uses.

Does Dehydrating Food Kill Living Enzymes?

It is said that raw uncooked fruits and vegetables aka “living foods” are many times healthier for you because the natural living enzymes are not destroyed by heat. Anything below 120 degrees Fahrenheit and your food is still considered RAW, anything above that and the living enzymes will be compromised.

So if you’re making apple chips, kale chips, or whatever, just make sure you set the temperature at around 105 degrees Fahrenheit the whole way, and the living enzymes should be maintained.

Just Set The Timer and Forget It

That’s all you gotta do. Just set the timer and leave it, it will turn itself off when done. The machine has 3 separate circuits which protects it from any electrical malfunctioning, so you don’t have to worry about any dangers of leaving it on overnight unattended.

Cleaning The Trays

Cleaning up is easy because you put the food on the mesh screen, which means the trays hardly get dirty, and if they do they can be cleaned on the top rack of your dishwasher. The mesh screens can be cleaned by soaking it in the sink and then rinsing it off.

The Pros

  • Large capacity of 15sqft, this can fit over 5lbs of sliced potatoes
  • A good range of temperature control. Low enough to keep living enzymes in raw fruits & veggies, but high enough to safety dehydrate meat
  • Built in timer of up to 26hrs that shuts off on it’s own when done
  • Door on the front can easily be removed to make handling the trays more efficient
  • Safety feature of 3 separate circuits ensure you can leave the machine on unattended
  • Has excellent reviews and ratings from online customers
  • Excalibur is a trusted brand for dehydrators. They have been in business since the early 1970’s and have an excellent reputation for creating high quality products

The Cons

  • The thermostat and timer is located at the back of the machine, this is a tad bit inconvenient. You may have to pull the machine forward a bit to see the dials and numbers, especially if your counter space is small.
  • More expensive than Excalibur dehydrators without the timer
  • Some people complain about the whirling noise the fan makes
  • The ParaFlexx sheets for liquid or semi-liquid ingredients is not included and have to be bought separately
